Some of the fashion trends out make me cringe and some of them make me super happy! I love that lace is in right now, I would have everything in lace if I could! I am also loving the colored pants. At first I didn’t think I would like it, but since trying on and finding a pair of royal blue crops I’m totally sold on this latest trend!

I won’t say much more and move on to the photos.

Lace top is Forever21
Blue Crops TJmaxx
Sunglasses are Betsy Johnson also from TJmaxx
Earrings from Target
Necklace is Forever21

What do you all think of the colored pants? Do you have a favorite color this season?

You have nice natural wave… Thanks, but shhhh, I have a secret… it’s not natural!

I was cursed blessed with naturally straight fine hair and lots of it! I have always had a difficult time styling my hair on my own. So how do I get those wavy locks you have seen in previous photos? Simple, remember the old crimpers back in the 80s (I mean now?). I use something similar, Yep they make the perfect solution just for that wavy effect!

There are several brands and styles of this but I bought the Bed Head Wave Artist and it works perfect for me. Plus, it takes me about 10 minutes to make my hair wavy. Super easy!!

So here you have me all natural, straight out of the shower and blown dry.

My Bed Head Wave Artist

a little close up to see how this 3 prong crimper works

oh and don’t forget the styling product! First is Chi Iron Guard to help protect my hair from heat styling, I looove the smell of this! The other is Big Sexy Hair, Spray and Play hairspray. I use this before and after to help with my fine textured hair. It’s a light hold so it doesn’t make my hair feel or look stiff.

And the results… lovely wavy locks! I can’t believe how easy it is to achieve this look.

Do you have a favorite waver? Let us know in the comments below!

As a photographer one of the most difficult discussions when it comes to clothes is what to wear to a wedding you are shooting. Long are the days of the standard black/white vendor uniforms. For myself I like to be comfortable, functional and still look nice. I would rather blend in with the guests than be easily pin pointed as the photographer. I do this because I’m weaving in and out of the crowd of guests all day long. So how do we dress so we are blending in? Most guests dress up, girls are usually in cocktail dress or summer dresses! Yes I do wear dresses, I’ll also wear comfortable pants and a nice flowy top. Occasionally I post an outfit I wore to a wedding so you can see how I dress for the occasion!

Here is an outfit I wore to the latest wedding I attended. It was a more “casual” event… and when I say casual I don’t mean jeans and t-shirt. But more what you would wear to church or similar gathering.

I wore a maxi dress, it’s light weight and long … so I can still bend over without showing off my goods!
Also, my Epiphanie Lyric bag, I love this bag. I can use it to stuff all my lenses and flashes in it. Works perfect for a full day of wedding fun!

Yes I am recycling this image from last week, Toms are perfect for weddings! My feet were feeling great at the end of the day, not a blister in sight!!

So there you have it, a not so boring black and white attire for a wedding photographer!!

Accessories are a fun way to play up an outfit. I have a few go to items, although I may not wear them at the same time but I do like to mix and match things.

This is a new necklace I got over the weekend from Lucky Brand… I adore it!

My Pandora bracelet is one of my favorites. I love that I can add charms that mean something to me, plus it makes it easy for my wonderful husband to buy gifts

On the left is my Target ring, This one is big but I love how ornate and colorful it is. On the right are Lucky Brand earrings, again these are cute and fun… just not so much fun when my daughter pulls on them! OOOUCH!

Who said keys can’t be accessories! I love my camera key chain from Clickinmoms! And this sheer, lacy scarf I picked up in Nashville on a trip, is girly and perfect.

Lastly, my Crochet Toms. These are my go to shoes, they are super comfortable and cute. I even wear them while shooting weddings, since they look cute with a maxi dress or skinny pants.

There ya go! I’ll come back to the scarfs in the future. Embarrassing fact: This is one of those Wannabe moments I had recently, this was actually the very first scarf I bought that wasn’t for winter wear.

If you read my post last week you would have seen how I dress for everyday. Hey, I’m a mom I stay at home quite a bit and play with 2 toddlers so I give myself permission to wear jeans and a t-shirt on a daily basis! However, I love to clean up before going out shopping or out with the girls (we love our moms night out!). I recently bought this new top at The Limited on their clearance rack. I’m all about style if I can get it at a decent price. Some things are worth spending more money on for quality however when it comes to trends that come and go I prefer to take a cheaper route. I know I’m not alone here!

So here you have it a basic around town outfit that is easy. A simple summer top with skinny jeans and cute shoes! Oh and let’s not forget the cute earrings I picked up at Francesca’s, such a cute little boutique!

My son wanted in a picture. He loves my soft box and laughs every time it flashes

Ahh fashion… I love it and I hate it! I love looking at fashion magazines, scouring the internet of online stores with fabulous clothes (and expensive!). I hate it because I always feel weird wearing current trends or trying new things with my hair/makeup. I am basically your average plain jane. As you can see from the pictures below I love my jeans and t-shirts. It’s so comfortable and easy to wear. I can do anything in these clothes and not worry about much. If you know me personally, this is how you normally see me. After all I do have 2 toddlers running around with their messy, sticky hands! However, lets face it, jeans and t-shirts get BORING! Even for this plain jane.

What I hope to do with this new blog series is to introduce new ideas I have found and let you all comment with your opinions! This also means you will be seeing more of my face hitting this blog… be afraid, be very afraid!!! This photographer likes to be behind the lens for a reason
So here I am posing it up for you in my jeans and t-shirt!

Currently, I’m taking a lighting class with Dave Moore of DMS Studio. I have worked with studio light before but I wanted to understand things a little better. The class so far has been super helpful! I thought I would share a couple of shots from class tonight

These 2 may appear to be professional models (wink, wink) but they are actually photographers themselves! This is Noelle and Blake!

And for those photographers out there that like to see pull backs I have one for you! This was a fun side clamshell lighting setup, that create a beautiful soft light.

And a favorite from the evening with a different lighting setup. Octobox on towards right creating a nice contrast shadow! I love it!

The other night Kayla decided that she didn’t think she needed a shirt. Now here I am in a sweatshirt cold and she is trying her best to remove her shirt. This went on for about 20 minutes until she finally wiggled out of it! So what do I do? I most definitely pulled out my camera and documented the series of events!

Anyone else resisting the urge to give her a raspberry??

Many people make New Years resolutions to lose weight, exercise more, eat better, etc. I do not make those kind of resolutions, because resolutions are often not made into a lifestyle. I do try to do things through out the year to better myself by exercising and eating better. If you didn’t know, I’ve been working out with Becky Fox at Knoxville’s Get Foxy Boot Camp and it has changed me! My motivation for working out has increased tremendously. I actually dislike missing class! I can not recommend her class enough… seriously, join me for a class and you will see how fun and motivating it is!

Nutrition is a tough cookie (pun intended). I did Weight Watchers a few years ago and did well on it. It’s a great program that will teach you how to eat properly portioned balanced meals. However, it doesn’t teach you about all the chemicals you put in your body daily from all the diet foods and sugar substitutes. Becky’s class has done and is still doing the “Game On Diet.” Which is a great “diet”, I say diet but really it’s a great way to eat all the time and to make a lifestyle out of. It’s all about eating smaller portioned meals 5 times a day, which keeps your metabolism working it’s best. Personally, I find the 5 times a day a little daunting. My crazy schedule doesn’t always allow for me to eat that many times a day, which is an excuse, I know!

I purchased an e-book the other day about quitting sugar… umm yeah I think I might be crazy! An Australian, Sarah Wilson (she must be awesome with that last name!), wrote this book “I Quit Sugar“, it’s an 8 week program to slowly detox your body of sugar. Her claims is we all eat way more than we should, I agree! I am a sugar lover, I could eat sweets all day long. She even talks about the “good” sugar… fruit. She also claims that removing sugar from our diets can actually make us nicer! Ok I’m game, I think I could do this. Might be a good challenge for myself. I can do almost anything for 8 weeks, right? I will be starting as soon as I finish reading the book! And maybe I this will be what helps me lose those last 10 pounds that have stuck to me like ooey gooey sticky buns!

Subscribe to the blog to watch my progress, I’ll be back with more information and updates. Detoxing from sugar might just make me mean before it makes me nicer – because I’m already nice!!

This year I decided to join up with some other photographers and do project 52. 1 photo a week for a full year. Easy right? Well sometimes even I, a photographer, can go a week without picking up a camera when life gets busy outside of work. There are themes but we don’t have to follow the themes, just something to get ourselves thinking outside of photographing the normal ever day things. This weeks theme is appropriate for the time of year, Resolution. While I really don’t like to set resolutions, I do set goals for myself and I do have plenty of goals I’m setting for my self this coming year! One of the biggest ones is time management. Juggling a life of a mother to two toddlers can get you all out of sorts, so I’m setting a goal to find a way to make my schedule work for me the best way possible.

and to help I thought I would have a new receptionist. She will now be taking your calls and returning texts/emails!
